Dezeen editor Amy Frearson reveals her pick of the best new bathroom products launched at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, including a marble sink inspired by a wicker basket and a bathtub with a tapered edge.
This year saw 243 brands exhibit their new products at the Salone Internazionale del Bagno – the biannual bathroom exhibition that forms part of Milan design week, the world's most important furniture fair.
This year's highlights largely came from Italian brands, including Ex.T, Mutina, and Cielo. Here's our pick of the eight best new products on show, which would all look at home in a minimalist bathroom:
Craft by Stefano Cavazzana for Novello
Taking inspiration from Japanese interiors, this Novello bathroom collection features products designed by Venetian designer Stefano Cavazzana to look handmade. They include cabinets with doors based on traditional shoji screens, a square basin made from natural stone, and slender metal pieces including a seat and a ladder-like towel rail.
Belt by Meneghello Paolelli Associati for Arbi
One of three new collections that Italian studio Meneghello Paolelli Associati has created for Arbi, the Belt range includes a freestanding bathtub and five washbasins. The detail they all share is a tapered rim, designed to look like it has been squeezed by a belt.
Arco by MUT for Ex.T
The latest product that Spanish studio MUT has designed for Ex.T is a combined sink and mirror system, with taps available in matt black or brass. Shelving is slotted in behind the oval mirror, so as not to interrupt the minimal finish.
Ribbon by Sebastian Herkner for Ex.T
Another new launch from Ex.T, the Ribbon collection features a bath and sink console, both with a tiered form. Created by German designer Sebastian Herkner, the products are complemented by metal and marble details.
Intreccio by Paolo Ulian for Antonio Lupi
A wicker basket was the inspiration for this freestanding marble washbasin, created by designer Paolo Ulian for Italian brand Antonio Lupi. Lights are positioned between the curved layers, creating patterns of light and shadow.
Accents by OEO Studio for Mutina
For the first time, Mutina has launched a series of products to complement its impressive range of tiles. Designed by Danish architecture office OEO Studio, the Accents collection includes a wide range of furnishings and details, from cabinets and towel rails, to skirting boards and space dividers.
Siwa by Andrea Parisio and Giuseppe Pezzano for Cielo
This rectangular washbasin from Italian brand Cielo sits over a simple wood or metal trestle, making it particularly suitable for bathrooms with limited space. The accompanying mirror is supported by a geometric frame, which can be customised with a range of accessories.
SK-IN Decor Frame by VismaraVetro
Shower-screen specialist VismaraVetro now offers a special edition of its SK-IN screens, featuring a grid of printed lines that create the impression of many individual windows. The walk-in system is made to measure, so can be adjusted to work with any size of shower cubicle.
